HOME → our STORY → Who We Are
A union scaffolding contractor built for complex commercial work.
Founded in 2007, Commonwealth Scaffold serves Greater Boston and New England with scaffold planning, erection, safe access, and public protection systems. We’re a union company – built on craft, accountability, and the belief that safety isn’t a department. It’s the job.

Our History
Commonwealth Scaffold was founded by Luke McKinnon and Peter Volpe with a simple standard – build scaffold the right way, with safety and field discipline leading every decision. Over time, that standard became our reputation on complex commercial and demolition jobsites – especially where tight staging, active sidewalks, and changing phases demand clear coordination and clean execution.
We’re built to integrate with CM and GC field leadership, keep the site edge controlled, and maintain predictable access as conditions evolve. The result is straightforward – safer work, fewer surprises, and steady momentum from mobilization through final strike.
